Occupational Therapy
Tina was lovely and I always looked forward to her visits. I didn’t want the program to end as I enjoyed her visits to my home for occupational therapy. She helped me to be safer in my home and to return to some of the things I used to do. I became more confident and now go for walks in the neighbourhood, do my needlework and have strategies to remember my appointments.
At 89 I didn’t think it was worth changing my bathroom to make it safer even though I had had a fall and broke my leg. Tina encouraged me to apply to DVA for the bathroom to be changed. Even though there was lots of work in the application, Tina kept trying on my behalf. Eventually it has all been completed and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Tina would come and make sure everything was going well. Now I feel much safer using the shower and it looks really great.
My life was literally flattened when I contracted Guillian Barre Syndrome. I could not move a muscle and had a newborn to care for. Once discharged from hospital, I had occupational therapy as one of my allied health services. Tina helped me to develop ways to care for myself and my baby, do household jobs and recover some independence in my daily life. She would get excited over the slightest improvements and that helped me when I was frustrated and upset with my condition. She always tried to find a way to help me do whatever I was wanting to do. Her nickname was the ‘fun therapist’. Tina was very warm and caring.
I had significant left sided hemiplegia following a stroke. Tina was my occupational therapist on a post discharge rehabilitation program. I was very happy to have someone working with me that understood what was important to me and worked with me to achieve my goals. After 16 weeks, I was able to get back on a horse again – something I thought I would never be able to do again. Tina helped me to believe I could do things I never thought I would again.
Fitness & Wellbeing
I joined Tina’s small group training with a couple of other ladies to improve my fitness for an upcoming overseas holiday. Over the nine weeks, not only did I improve my fitness, I lost weight, was able to reduce my blood pressure medication and improved my ability to undertake every day activities. Tina also identified areas that needed attention by other health professionals and referred me as needed. The best part was every week was a challenge and fun. I am looking forward to joining again when I get back.
I am a middle aged male and probably like other middle aged males, my level of physical activity has dwindled to about nothing over the years. I joined the outdoor fitness classes with a friend; neither of us really knowing what to expect. I was surprised at how unfit I was but equally surprised at how much fun I had getting fitter. Tina programmed lots of variety into the classes which kept us motivated, interested and challenged. Whilst Tina pushes you to reach your potential, she is skillful at modifying the exercises to accommodate different people’s level and ability. I thoroughly enjoyed Tina’s classes and found her to be very professional.
I am currently studying to become a fitness instructor. Tina’s outdoor fitness classes made me realise how much I want to work within the fitness industry. Friendly, fun, challenging, informative, energetic and rewarding is how I would describe Tina’s fitness classes.
I have been going to Tina’s aqua classes for about 8 years. In all this time Tina has been a great motivator and always an inspiration. Her classes are varied and so much fun. We never do the same class in a row, therefore the variation keeps me interested and focused on my goal of losing weight and getting fitter. Tina’s knowledge is vast and diverse covering all aspects of health and fitness. If you want to have a great workout and lots of fun too, Tina’s aqua classes are for you. It doesn’t matter what you look like… we are all there for the same reason and you can also meet some wonderful people as well. Oh by the way, Tina has great taste in music… 70’s, 80’s and 90’s; absolutely Fabulous to workout with. Hope to see you there sometime.
Working with Tina Garrett is the best thing I have ever done for my health. I started Water Aerobics some 10-12 years ago when I injured my back as I couldn’t do any exercise that put impact on my spine. My general mobility and fitness was in decline and I was having difficulty playing my chosen sport – golf. It is apparent that Tina enjoys what she does and this comes across in her lessons. I have found Tina to be very knowledgeable in all aspects of health and fitness. She has gone to great lengths to make me more enthusiastic about my personal fitness and has prepared a specific program for me to follow. I am fitter and have more flexibility than I have had since I was 20. My core strength has improved and the aches and pains I was suffering from have eased and my golf handicap is reducing. I thoroughly enjoy working with Tina every week and am always disappointed when the pool closes for holidays.
I am 65 yrs, acutely overweight and suffer from arthritis. Although I participate in Tina’s aqua aerobic program twice a week I approached “Boot Camp” with some reservations. I was able to participate at my own level but was extended steadily each session achieving a huge improvement in core strength and balance enabling me to execute previously difficult movements e.g. squats/knee raises etc. Tina provides a fun atmosphere in a lovely outdoor environment which results in you leaving each session feeling just that bit better about yourself!
